The effect of digital system in dental clinic: A case-report

Abstract

|
Purposes: To evaluate the association between using digital system and patients’ subjective treatment satisfaction in dental clinic.
Methods: The study subjects who visited a dental clinic were collected from November to December in 2005. The total of 71 patients aged more than 20 were analysed after being classified into two groups, digital and control groups. The digital system in digital group was applied to diagnose, explain patients’ oral health, and instruct for oral health education. Dental caries experience and periodontal status were measured by oral examination, while patients’ treatment satisfaction and other related factors were investigated by questionnaire survey. Chi-square test and regression analysis were adapted for statistical analysis.
Results: The patients with digital system were likely to be more satisfied with dental treatment than in the control group by bivariate analysis, but there was no significant difference. The patients with digital system had also no significant effect on patients’ treatment satisfaction comparing with the patients with no digital system after adjusted for other related factors in regression model. However, the patients’ treatment satisfaction significantly increased as the satisfaction of dental treatment procedure and oral health education were higher, and periodontal status was worse.
Conclusions: The result of present study might suggest that dental treatment procedure and oral health education may play more important role in patients’ subjective treatment satisfaction in dental clinic than the digital system itself.
